How to Add Color to Your Closet This Spring

Spring is, without a doubt, our favorite season here at Jackie. With it, comes a fresh perspective on style, color, fabrics, and most importantly, a big spring wardrobe clean out. It is the perfect time to reevaluate your wardrobe and take stock of your personal style.

As a Jackie Stylist, I am constantly encouraging clients to add some color to their wardrobe, especially this time of year. Spring and summer call for colorful accessories, floral prints and both lighter and brighter fabrics. Keep reading for my top three tips for adding color to your closet this spring.

If You’re Scared of Color…

If you are hesitant to bring color into your wardrobe this spring, start small! The best way to get more comfortable adding colors into the mix is to start with accessories. Choose a fun, spring bag with a pretty pop of color, or earrings you love the shape of in a color you wouldn't normally choose.

Simple things like adding a bright belt to a classic white dress or throwing on a bold, colorful earring with a white tee and jeans can spice up your wardrobe’s color pallet without stepping too far out of your comfort zone. Promise me you won’t be scared for too long, because you can totally rock bold colors this spring! If You Love Color…

If you tend to buy color already, you may feel overwhelmed looking in your closet. Instead of buying any and every color out there, find a color palette that works with your skin tone and buy items in that pallet. Sticking to 3-5 base colors will make sure your wardrobe always looks good on you and will let you mix and play with color more often.

Bright color pairings like purple/green and yellow/pink are coming back in style and trending this spring. Use that to your advantage and coordinate your color game with a thoughtful balance of colors that work for you!

If You Don’t Think Color Looks Good On You…

If you don’t think color looks good on you, think twice. We are big believers in having a solid collection of basic neutrals in your wardrobe, but don’t stop there. There is a place in every closet for some bold statement pieces and gorgeous colors.

I often recommend to my clients that we find their personal colors. Every wardrobe should consist of 5-10 colors that complement each other and reflect your style. Choose 3-5 base colors, or the colors you see the most of, 1-2 neutral colors, like white, a warm tan, or black, and 3-4 accent colors, the fun colors that we are talking about in this blog. Accent colors are the ones you might not want to wear in a full-length jumpsuit, but you love them in small doses. Personally, I love all shades of green, blue and for drama, a good red.
