Capsule Wardrobe Series: The Clean Girl

We all have a girl in our lives with the clean girl aesthetic. From her hairstyle to her freshly pedicured toes, she’s polished and put-together at all times. There seem to be no “off looks” for her as even her pajama drawer is made up of matching silk and cotton sets…and don’t even get us started on the rest of her wardrobe.

Ok, we’re starting.

Our next capsule wardrobe feature is the “Clean Girl”. This wardrobe is simple and to the point. Its focus is not comfort and functionality, not fabrics, but fit. A lot of outfits in this wardrobe are actually built around accessory items like bags and shoes. Oh, and does glowy skin count as an accessory? Yes.

As you know, we always like to start a capsule wardrobe feature by giving you a visual example of someone who embodies the look. The person that we think exemplifies this capsule wardrobe best would be Swedish designer and model, Matilda Djerf.

BALLET FLAT

It’s only natural to make the first item the beloved ballet flat. An understated shoe choice that doesn’t scream fashionista by any means but it’s simple and that’s just what you want if you’re a clean girl. You can either go with a traditional rounded-toe flat with your jeans or a pointed-toe flat with your day dresses. Is a ballet flat too dainty for your style? No problem. A loafer is another option that is both timeless and highly trending at the moment.

WHITE OXFORD

Because a collared shirt is always a good idea for a clean aesthetic. In and of itself it’s clean and crisp. It leaves room for a slicked back bun and glowy skin to have its moment.

LBD

The ‘little black dress’ is kind of a big deal. Even when styled as simply as it is in this capsule, it packs a big punch. Giving a great opportunity to style with other items in this capsule, try it under the white Oxford, with a ballet flat, or a striped shirt. Because one of our favorite ways to get the most out of the dresses we own is by turning them into a skirt. (try this strapless maxi for an ankle-length look)

STRIPED SHIRT

A striped shirt is the best item on this list. It’s so Parisian, so classic. If you haven’t caught on yet, this capsule wardrobe takes a lot of inspiration from Parisian dressing.

LONG COAT/TRENCH

If you’re somewhere in the world that gets cold, take advantage of it and add a long neutral trench coat to your wardrobe for this capsule. It’s polished, and can dress up almost any base outfit. If your local climate isn’t quite cold enough for a trench, go with a cardigan. This style is almost always so sweet and delicate looking, a change up from a sharp and tailored blazer. (& try a unique style like this denim trench)

SHOULDER BAG

Lastly, a shoulder bag. Just big enough to fit the essentials. Which for this aesthetic, is probably a lipgloss, air pods, and sunscreen. Thus, it really might just be the cherry on the top to your outfit (that you might only be carrying for a photo op). Again, this item is not too overpowering.

Narrowing down your wardrobe to these key items takes the stress away and adds a new simplicity to getting dressed and your style will show consistency. This clean girl style is one that relies on staple pieces and simplicity. Try incorporating this capsule-like mindset when cleaning out your closet and on your next shopping spree. Here at Jackie, our stylists value these principles when guiding you to the pieces that will remain timeless. If you connect with this blog, and you’d like your stylist to focus on this when she’s curating your boxes, she’ll begin to build your wardrobe this way.
