Spring Cleaning Your Closet

It’s that time of year again! Whether you love it or hate it, all women know that spring cleaning their closet is an essential component of building a wardrobe that they love. You might already have a system for getting your wardrobe in tip-top shape for the warmer months, but if you need a little nudge in the right direction, Jackie is here to help.

Create The “Yes Pile”

It’s always best to keep things simple from the start. Open that closet door and take a good look at what you are diving into. Chances are, the things you wear most frequently are in the front of your closet, since you keep them on a regular rotation. The pieces that you wear regularly, the items that you can’t imagine living without, separate those from the rest of your wardrobe, creating what we like to call the “Yes Pile.” This makes it easy to visualize everything that is left over, the items that you know you haven’t worn in years and the ones you are on the fence about. Before you do anything else, make sure all of your must-have pieces have migrated from the closet to their designated pile. We don’t want anything getting lost in the process.

Out With the Cold, In With The New…

This step is for the women who live through months upon months of brutal winter. If you fall into this category, you probably have this step down to a science and we are sure you can’t wait to make room for some warm weather pieces. Bring out your summer essentials that have been hiding in storage and put those coats, sweaters and fleece-lined leggings back in storage for the warmer months ahead. If you are still in a transitional season, start slowly weeding out the pieces that you know you won’t need until next winter, like your snow boots and ankle-length, down parkas, but keep some cozy basics, like your favorite cashmere sweaters.

Learning to Let Go

This is the hard part for so many women and we want to make it easier. Letting go of clothes that you don’t wear anymore is a good thing. Whether they are worn out, don’t fit you anymore or they just don’t bring you the joy they once brought, let them go. Those pieces aren’t going to help you move forward, they are only going to hold you back.

Regardless of the price you paid, you deserve to invest in a wardrobe that is going to build your confidence and propel you forward. Life is too short to feel badly that you bought something that you never wore, or invested in something that doesn’t fit the way it used to. You deserve a wardrobe that makes you feel like your most confident self in the present, not in the past.

Give Back

Recycle the pieces that no longer fit your lifestyle. Whether that be by reselling at your local consignment store or giving back to those in need by donating, don’t miss the opportunity to give back to those in your community. By recycling your wardrobe, you allow the pieces that once meant so much to you, have that same significance for someone else. At Jackie, we truly believe in the benefit of helping others and spring cleaning your wardrobe is an opportunity just waiting to be taken!
