Core Interior Design Trends in 2022

If you’re looking for a few ways to bring some life to your space and are in need of a bit of inspiration, you’re in the right place. I have listed 5 of my favorite interior design trends for 2022. Bold, traditional, dramatic, and daring are words that come to mind when creating and designing spaces this year. Whether you are looking to try these out on a smaller scale, or go big and bold with more permanent variations of these trends, I am confident that you will have so much fun bringing your space to life this spring.

Dramatic Color Palettes

Don’t be afraid to go bold with your paint choice! It feels safe to choose white, and we know it works so we land there! However, taking a bit of a calculated risk can really pay off and allow you to elevate your room. The color green is THE color right now. We are seeing it in wall colors, decor, and accessories. Even spring 2022 fashion is very green-focused this season! It's a great option if you’re needing color inspo! If you’re feeling hesitant or cautious about painting the walls, try changing up something that can be easily fixed or transitioned back to its original form, like adding an accent wall with peel and stick wallpaper in a bold color. This is a great way to start your dramatic color palette journey.

Newstalgia

This is the perfect core trend for you if you like vintage shopping. Find your local stores that sell antiques and gently used furniture and go have a dig through the furniture and accessories. Search for old mirrors, paintings, picture frames, interesting lamps that are in good condition, or anything else that catches your eye. These little objects will add so much personality and zest to the room you are updating!

Objects on a larger scale are very on-trend right now. I’m obsessed with loud patterned wallpapers, big chunky throw blankets, and massive aerial rugs. A great way to implement this look without having to do a lot of heavy lifting is with a larger vase filled with branches or flowers that work to take up space! My friend Athena @eyeswoon always pulls this off so well. I am constantly looking at her page for inspiration.

Using Raw Materials

These will never go out of style, but are somehow worth mentioning every year! More than ever woods, stone, and metals are being used indoors and not just out on the decks or patios. We’re seeing sheet metals as wall treatments, and stones coming into the house to add a tranquil and natural feeling to a space. An easy way to implement raw materials is by choosing baskets or wooden furniture to give the house a down-to-earth feeling, that comes off both relaxing and dynamic. I also love adding some natural texture to coffee table styling with some pampas grass in an oversized ceramic vase. Read more on styling the perfect coffee table here.

Checkerboard Floors

I am so glad these are back! Nothing feels more classic or funky than a checkerboard floor. Perfect for a kitchen or bathroom remodel, as seen by my friend @simplygrove just did one in her newly renovated bathroom! You can use colored tiles, but sticking with the original black and white is personally my favorite way to go. If you’re feeling really bold, continue adding patterns to the bathroom or kitchen, or if you want the floors to be the moment, keep the rest of the design simple and traditional to align with the aesthetic of the floors.
